339 Kenyans Murdered Between August and October, Reports Police IG Kanja

A total of 339 murder cases have been reported nationwide between August and October 2024, according to the National Police Service (NPS).

In a statement released on Thursday evening, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja noted that this figure represents a slight increase compared to the same period in 2022 and 2023.

“A comparative analysis of murder cases from August to October for the years 2022-2024 shows a slight uptick. In 2024, we have recorded 339 murder cases, compared to 336 in 2023 and 341 in 2022,” Kanja explained.

Notable cases during this period include the murder of Willis Onyango Ayieko, a Wells Fargo HR Manager, whose partially decomposed body was found in a stream in Khwisero. His remains have since been sent to Nairobi for an autopsy.

Additionally, a body believed to belong to missing Wajir MCA Yusuf Hussein was discovered in Lake Yahud, but DNA tests confirmed it was not him. Investigations are ongoing to identify the body and locate the MCA.

The community in Eastleigh has been shaken by the murders of three family members—Dahabo Daud Said, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed—whose mutilated bodies were found in different locations. Investigations are still in progress.

Authorities are also looking into the murder of Victoria Mumbua, a taxi driver from Mombasa, whose body was found along the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Highway. A suspect is currently in police custody.
