Ali Hassan Joho, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and the Blue Economy, has ordered the immediate closure of Simba Cement’s quarries in the Kabe Ribe area of Rabai Sub-County, Kilifi County.
This directive was issued during a public hearing held by the National Assembly Committee on Environment, Forest, and Mining.
“I instruct my PS to begin the process of issuing a notice to the factory until they achieve full compliance,” he announced.
Local residents expressed concerns that the quarry operations were harming the environment and causing damage to nearby properties from blasting. They also accused the company of using dubious methods to acquire land for its expansion.
