Wiper Party to Back Gen Z Candidates in 2027 Elections, Says Senator Maanzo

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has revealed that the Wiper Party intends to support Generation Z candidates aspiring for various positions in the 2027 general elections.

Senator Maanzo mentioned that under the leadership of Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper Party is open to welcoming Gen Z members interested in running for office.

He urged Gen Z individuals to register with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and to join political parties of their choice in preparation for the 2027 elections.

“We want to encourage Gen Z to register as voters and become involved with political parties. Wiper is ready to support any Gen Z candidates who want to run for office and have struggled to form their own parties. We can back them for various positions,” he stated.

Maanzo also pointed out that the youth, who have recently protested against the Kenya Kwanza administration, will have the opportunity to elect new leaders in the next elections who will better represent their interests.

He added, “With two years until the next elections, Kenyans dissatisfied with their MPs can begin recall efforts by gathering signatures. Once the IEBC is reconstituted, voters will have the chance to recall underperforming representatives.”

Thousands of youth, mainly GenZ’s held massive demonstrations in Kenya’s capital Nairobi and other major towns in June, July 2024 to protest against the Finance Bill 2024, with some saying “Ruto Must GO.”

In July 2024, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) rejected ten applications for Gen Z political party names due to a lack of inclusivity.

The rejected names included Gen-Z Movement, Gen-Z National Movement, Gen-Z Alliance Movement, Gen-Z Democratic Movement, Gen-Z People’s Alliance, Gen Z United Movement, Gen-Z People’s Movement, Gen-Z Political Party, Gen-Z Democratic Party, and Gen-Z Alliance Party.
