Kanja Warns Against Airport Protest, Cites Legal Consequences

Acting Inspector General Douglas Kanja has expressed concern that the weekly protests by Generation Z have become a refuge for troublemakers.

Speaking at a press conference, Kanja accused these troublemakers of vandalizing and stealing from innocent, hardworking Kenyans.

He criticized the organizers for not adhering to the legal requirements outlined in the Public Order Act, emphasizing that if they had followed the law, the chaos caused by these troublemakers could have been avoided.

Kanja’s briefing preceded anticipated protests, where youth planned to occupy Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). He cautioned that JKIA is a protected area under the Protected Areas Act Cap 204 of Kenya, and trespassers would face legal consequences as per the law.

Additionally, Kanja highlighted Section 58 of the Kenya Civil Aviation Act No. 21 of 2013, which prohibits trespassing on government or licensed airfields.

He urged the public to remain vigilant in crowded places and to provide information that could assist law enforcement in preventing crime associated with protests.

“We must distinguish criminals and handle them according to the law,” Kanja affirmed. “Anyone who violates the law will face swift and decisive legal action.”
