President William Ruto has fired his entire Cabinet following demands for reform from Generation Z youths. Only Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of Foreign Affairs remain, Ruto announced on Thursday.

“After careful reflection and listening to the voices of Kenyans, I have decided, within the powers vested in me by the Constitution, to dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General, except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” Ruto stated.
Principal Secretaries will oversee ministries until a new Cabinet is appointed. Ruto has promised further reforms, likely affecting more ineffective officials.
The changes come after sustained pressure from Generation Z, who criticized Cabinet Secretaries for failure. What began as opposition to the Finance Bill 2024 escalated into calls for complete government overhaul, with chants of “Ruto Must Go.”
Protests against the bill resulted in clashes with police, leading to deaths and injuries, sparking national and international condemnation.
In response, Ruto announced a six-day convention starting Monday, aiming to gather religious groups, civil society, professionals, political parties, and others.
However, GenZ youths expressed outrage, accusing older politicians like Azimio leader Raila Odinga of co-opting their demands for personal gain, citing historical alliances with past governments.
