Following a disturbing incident captured on CCTV, a Nigerian man, identified as Nwankwo Noko, has been deported for physically assaulting a Kenyan woman, Ms. Pauline, who is wheelchair-bound.
Surveillance footage depicted Noko striking Pauline while she was seated in her wheelchair, prompting intervention from onlookers.
The video, which circulated widely on April 29, caught the attention of Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, who promptly pursued the case.
Senator Orwoba met with Pauline on May 1, where it was revealed that Noko, who is in Kenya on a work permit and has children with Pauline, had allegedly threatened her and her domestic workers to prevent them from testifying against him.
Efforts to delay the legal process were also reported, prompting intervention from Senator Orwoba’s office to rectify the situation. The case is now progressing through the courts.
Senator Orwoba condemned the assault, emphasizing the vulnerability of the victim and pledging to ensure her safety and that of her children.
The Ministry of Gender, led by CS Aisha Jumwa, collaborated with the Ministry of Interior to address the issue.
“Action has since been taken, and we appreciate the swift response and efforts made by Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, and Principal Secretary Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok in expediting this process. Nwankwo Noko has been arrested and processed for deportation,” a statement from the Gender Ministry, signed by Senator Orwoba and PS Anne Wang’ombe, partly read.
On May 4, Noko was apprehended and is undergoing deportation proceedings, with swift action applauded by Kenyans and digital strategist Dennis Itumbi among others.
“Nigerian man who assaulted a Kenyan woman – Pauline – on a wheelchair arrested and being processed for deportation. Good job, Senator @gloria_orwoba and PS Ann Wang’ombe,” Itumbi wrote.
