The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has taken the decision to close several vital roads due to the severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in various regions of the country.
One of the affected routes is the North Horr-Kalacha Road in Marsabit County, which has become impassable due to the intense rains in the area and the overflow from the Ethiopian Highlands.

In response to these conditions, KENHA has issued a plea to all motorists and other road users to exercise patience until the weather conditions improve. The Authority emphasized that the road closure is temporary and will be reassessed once the situation stabilizes. Additionally, KENHA mentioned that ongoing maintenance works are underway, aiming to restore any damaged sections along the affected routes.

The adverse weather conditions have also impacted the Nairobi-Garissa Road, particularly in the Mororo area, where flooding has occurred due to the rising water levels at the Tana River Bridge, a consequence of the continuous rainfall.
There are concerns about potential disruptions in other sections of the Garissa road, such as Madogo, Konapunda, and Mororo, should the river overflow persist.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution when approaching these areas, as the heavy rainfall may lead to further water rise and exacerbate the damage to the road infrastructure.
Despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather, KENHA has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and has deployed a contractor to address any issues promptly.
The recent heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns across the country.
