Kalonzo said he had received the news of Justice Mutava’s passing with a heavy heart, noting that the former judge was the husband of his colleague and fellow parliamentarian, Jessica Mbalu. He conveyed condolences on behalf of his family, the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), and Kenyans across the country to the bereaved family, relatives, and friends.

Paying tribute to Mutava’s judicial career, Kalonzo said he had served the nation with honour, integrity, and quiet distinction, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service within Kenya’s Judiciary.
He also acknowledged the personal loss felt by Mutava’s family, noting that he would be most deeply missed in his role as a husband and father, and said his thoughts and prayers were with the family during this difficult time.
Turning to scripture for comfort, Kalonzo quoted Psalm 34:18, which speaks of God’s closeness to those who are grieving, expressing hope that this sense of comfort would bring strength to Jessica and her children as they navigate the days ahead.
He further reassured the family that they would not face this period of mourning alone, pledging the continued support of the Wiper Patriotic Front and Kenyans nationwide during their time of sorrow.

Kalonzo closed his message with prayers for the departed judge, wishing him eternal rest.
Mutava served as a High Court judge before leaving the Judiciary, during which time he handled a wide range of cases throughout his judicial career. His passing has left his family mourning the loss of a husband, father, and former judicial officer who dedicated part of his career to Kenya’s justice system.
Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama also paid tribute to Mutava, describing him as a longtime family friend and expressing sorrow over his death.
Further details regarding the circumstances of Mutava’s death and funeral arrangements have yet to be made public. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their children.
