Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions that will affect select areas in Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, and Meru counties on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
According to the utility company, the temporary shutdowns are part of routine system maintenance intended to improve network reliability across the affected regions.

In a notice shared on social media on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Kenya Power alerted residents about the scheduled interruption, confirming that the listed areas would experience a planned power outage on that date.
Affected Areas and Schedules
In the North Rift region, parts of Uasin Gishu County will experience a power outage from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, affecting Mugunga, Pan Paper, Milimani, Nabemo, and nearby customer establishments.
Further west in Bungoma County, power will be cut off in the Butonge area between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with the maintenance work directly impacting Butonge High School, Butonge Market, and surrounding establishments.

The Mt. Kenya region will see the longest disruption, with Meru County experiencing an outage from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The scheduled interruption will cover the entirety of Meru Town and Kwa Ng’ombe, affecting notable locations including Ezri Hotel, Alba Hotel, Meru Slopes, Milimani, Sayen Hyper Mart, Grace Park Hospital, Meru Prison, and Winners Church.
