Police at Fort Ternan are investigating a road accident that left two people dead and 26 others injured on Thursday morning after a hearse service bus transporting mourners lost control and overturned along the Muhoroni-Londiani road.
According to a police report, the crash occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. near the tunnel area, about seven kilometres east of Fort Ternan, when a Mercedes bus with registration number KDH 181Y veered off the road and rolled once. The bus, operated by Kupa Kenya Hearse Services, was en route to Muhoroni carrying mourners accompanying the body of the late Jayden Kamau.

Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Emmanuel Osembo, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve to the left in the direction of Muhoroni.
The crash claimed the lives of two people, identified as Mathew Obiero, 36, and Margaret Areyo, 21. An additional 26 individuals sustained injuries ranging from cuts, bruises, and general body pain to more serious chest and spinal injuries. At the time the police report was filed, at least two of the injured were unconscious, while others suffered deep head wounds, a dislocated shoulder, and limb injuries. Several children were among those hurt.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to St Vincent Morgue for preservation, identification, and post-mortem examination. Police visited the scene and had the bus towed to the station, where it remains held pending inspection. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
