Uganda Airlines has signed its first aircraft purchase agreement with Boeing, ordering eight new planes as part of plans to expand its regional and international operations.
The national carrier will acquire four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft and four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to increase capacity, modernise its fleet and meet rising demand for air travel.

Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ato Girma Wake said the investment represents a significant milestone in the airline’s growth strategy and will strengthen Entebbe’s position as a key aviation hub in the region.
He noted that the additional aircraft will improve connectivity across Africa and to international destinations while supporting trade, tourism, investment and air cargo services.
The Boeing 737-8 MAX, which accommodates between 160 and 180 passengers, will operate regional routes within Africa as well as services to the Middle East and India.
Meanwhile, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will be deployed on long-haul routes connecting Uganda to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing Brad McMullen said the aircraft will provide Uganda Airlines with greater efficiency, operational flexibility and extended range to support its expansion plans.
According to Boeing, the new aircraft are expected to consume 20 to 25 per cent less fuel than the older models they will eventually replace.
Uganda Airlines currently serves 17 destinations across 13 countries, operating from its main hub at Entebbe International Airport.
