Spain Ends France’s World Cup Dream

Spain booked its place in the FIFA World Cup final after defeating France 2-0 in a highly anticipated semifinal clash on Tuesday.

The encounter had been billed as a showdown between France’s free-scoring attack and Spain’s disciplined defence, but it was the Spaniards who controlled the match, shutting down the French forwards to secure a comfortable victory.

Spain, whose only World Cup title came in 2010, will now face either Argentina or England in the final.

Teenage star Lamine Yamal played a key role in the opening goal after winning a penalty midway through the first half. Mikel Oyarzabal stepped up and converted from the spot to hand Spain a 1-0 lead.

Spain doubled its advantage in the 58th minute when Pedro Porro finished off a well-worked passing move that capitalised on a lapse in the French defence.

France entered the semifinal in impressive form, having scored 16 goals while conceding just two throughout the tournament, with Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé among the leading contenders for the Golden Boot.

However, Spain’s organised defence restricted France’s attacking opportunities by closing down passing lanes and limiting clear-cut chances. The victory means Spain has now conceded only one goal in seven matches during the tournament as it heads into the final.
