The tournament, which marks the 10th edition of the global youth competition, is scheduled to begin on October 17, 2026, in Rabat.
“Congratulations to Josephine Wanjiku on her selection to officiate at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, set to kick off on 17 October 2026. FKF wishes her all the best as she takes her place among the elite match officials in world football,” FKF said in a statement.
Wanjiku’s latest appointment follows an impressive season in which she was named the FKF Premier League’s Best Centre Referee during the end-of-season awards ceremony held in Nairobi on June 4, 2026.
The FIFA assignment further strengthens her growing reputation on the international stage. In 2025, she was among the referees selected for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Egypt, alongside Mauritania’s Yacine Samasa, making them the only African centre referees chosen by FIFA for the tournament.

She has also officiated several high-profile Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying matches, including Zambia versus DR Congo and Chad against Senegal in February 2025 in Côte d’Ivoire.

The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the second edition to feature 24 teams drawn from six continental confederations, including five representatives from Africa, among them the host nation Morocco.
