People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has stepped up her grassroots campaigns in Mt Kenya East, pitching herself as a reform-minded candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During her tour of Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties, Karua urged residents to reject leaders she accused of prioritising personal gain and instead back those focused on public service and delivery.

Using the slogan “Ondoa wakulaji, weka wafanyikazi,” she called on voters to choose leaders capable of addressing Kenya’s economic and social challenges.
Karua criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of focusing on high-profile project launches while failing to deliver meaningful services to citizens.
She argued that despite repeated announcements of multi-billion-shilling projects, many essential services remain unmet, blaming delays and mismanagement.
“If the government cannot deliver basic services, it has no business managing the national budget or the future of families,” she said, adding that taxpayers deserve to benefit from national resources rather than see them lost to corruption.
Karua also highlighted challenges in the health sector, saying many Level 5 hospitals face shortages of drugs, equipment, and staff despite continued deductions to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
She questioned the effectiveness of the current healthcare system, citing reports that SHA spending exceeds its revenue while patients continue to experience poor services.
“People do not benefit from launch ceremonies. They need functional roads, working hospitals, and real development,” she said, faulting what she described as unfulfilled promises on infrastructure projects.
She further criticised delays in major projects, including the Nithi Bridge, arguing that leadership should be judged by delivery rather than ceremonies and public appearances.

Karua also used the tour to present herself as a unifying opposition voice, signalling openness to collaboration with other leaders ahead of the 2027 polls.
Her visits to Embu and Tharaka Nithi are part of a broader nationwide strategy to strengthen her political base as the election season approaches.
