Authorities reported that the deceased had severe head cuts and burn injuries on his right hand.
A second victim was found alive inside a maize farm roughly 200 metres from the scene. He had sustained multiple injuries to the head and legs, along with burn wounds beneath his right armpit.
According to the survivor’s statement to investigators, the two men had been drinking at a bar in Thangathi at around 4am when they were confronted by three men he claimed to know.
The suspects allegedly accused them of stealing a goat before dragging them to a nearby road, where they attacked them with pangas and tried to burn them.
The survivor told police that despite suffering serious injuries, he was eventually spared by the attackers, who remained behind with the deceased.

Police later documented the scene before transferring the body to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The injured man is currently receiving treatment at the same facility as investigations continue and police hunt for the suspects linked to the attack.
