Embakasi East MP Babu Owino says he has spent nearly Ksh.70 million on the treatment of Felix Orinda, also known as DJ Evolve, following the 2020 shooting incident.
The case, which occurred at B-Club in Nairobi, has remained a key issue surrounding the legislator, who is eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027. The DJ was seriously injured after being shot, leaving him bedridden for years.

Speaking on the matter, Babu described the incident as unfortunate, acknowledging its seriousness while responding to public criticism, particularly after his acquittal in August 2023 due to weak investigations and gaps in ballistic evidence.
He admitted that some believe he should have faced jail time, saying he understands that perspective. However, he emphasized the idea of restorative justice over punishment, noting that he chose to take responsibility by supporting the victim.
According to the MP, he has covered DJ Evolve’s medical expenses over the years, even taking loans to sustain the treatment, with monthly costs averaging around Ksh.500,000.

He added that Orinda’s condition has improved and that he is now preparing for physiotherapy as part of his recovery.

Babu also described the incident as a turning point in his life, saying he quit alcohol and drug use afterward. He claimed there was no conflict between him and the DJ, explaining that the shooting happened accidentally while showing him the firearm, and noted that the DJ has since forgiven him.
In 2024, DJ Evolve shared details of his recovery journey and expressed hope of returning to his career as a DJ.
