The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast increased rainfall across several parts of the country for the week of April 14 to 20, even as hot weather conditions continue in arid and coastal regions.

Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin, including counties such as Kisumu, Kakamega, and Kisii, are likely to experience morning rains followed by afternoon thunderstorms and occasional night showers.

In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, mornings are expected to be cloudy with intermittent rainfall before giving way to sunny intervals, with showers likely in the afternoons and nights.

Along the Coast, including areas such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu, rainfall is expected at different times of the day, while northeastern counties like Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa may also receive scattered showers despite persistent heat.

Northwestern regions such as Turkana and Samburu are expected to remain mostly sunny during the day, with only isolated rainfall in some northern parts.

The meteorological department also warned of high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C in several regions, with Lodwar and Mandera expected to reach up to 37°C and 38°C respectively. However, cooler nighttime temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the central Rift Valley and highland areas like Nyahururu and Laikipia.

The forecast follows a relatively dry spell recorded between April 6 and 12, with limited rainfall in most parts of the country. The highest rainfall was recorded in Mombasa at the Marine Port Office station.

Authorities have urged the public to follow daily and regional forecasts for updated and localized weather information as conditions continue to vary across the country.
