Sifuna Speaks After Osotsi Brutal Attack

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed that Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is in stable condition but sustained serious injuries following an attack in Kisumu, as investigations into the incident gather pace.

Speaking after visiting him at Karen Hospital, Sifuna described the situation as both troubling and unacceptable.

“I’ve just come from Karen Hospital where Senator Osotsi is receiving treatment. He is badly hurt, though doctors say he is stable. Honestly, it’s hard to find the right words—this shouldn’t be happening,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed it has opened a probe into what it termed a serious assault.

In a statement, the agency strongly condemned the incident, calling it “brazen and cowardly,” and assured the public that detectives are actively following key leads.

“The motive behind the attack is yet to be established, but investigations are ongoing, including detailed forensic analysis of available CCTV footage,” the DCI said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue, promising to bring those responsible to justice.

Preliminary reports indicate that Osotsi had gone for a routine grooming session before heading to a restaurant, where he interacted with members of the public for about 30 minutes.

It was during this time that a group of armed individuals allegedly confronted him, questioned his political affiliations, and accused him of being linked to the ‘one-term’ brigade before reportedly assaulting him.

Sources say his security team chose not to use firearms to avoid escalating the situation in a public setting.

Siaya Governor James Orengo also condemned the attack, describing it as part of a wider trend of political intimidation aimed at silencing leaders.

Osotsi’s office echoed the condemnation, terming the incident “barbaric and cowardly” and urging swift action, noting that CCTV footage could play a key role in identifying the attackers.

The DCI has pledged to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
