Findings indicated diverse causes of death, pointing to a complex situation. Two cases remained inconclusive, while others were linked to pneumonia, septicemia, advanced heart disease, pulmonary thromboembolism, head injuries, and a mix of choking and head trauma.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are continuing with efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with authorities not ruling out possible foul play in some instances.

Health officials from Kericho and Nyamira counties were present during the autopsies, underlining the sensitivity of the matter.

In a related development, police have arrested another suspect connected to the case, bringing the total number in custody to three. The latest suspect was presented in a Kericho court, which allowed investigators to hold him for 25 days as inquiries proceed.

Earlier postmortem examinations on 25 children found in the same grave showed that four died from head injuries, 10 due to prematurity, while two cases could not be determined.

Among the children, eight were male and 10 female, while the gender of seven others could not be identified due to advanced decomposition.

Dr. Njoroge noted that the bodies were in different stages of decomposition, with some relatively fresh and others severely decomposed, including infants.

The initial phase of the autopsies focused on the 25 children, with a total of 33 bodies recovered from Makaburini Cemetery in Kericho County after the mass grave was discovered last Saturday.
