Authorities are probing the death of an 87-year-old man who had been reported missing in Kandara Sub-County, Murang’a County.
The man, identified as Maina Mugai, was reported missing on March 19, 2026, at Githumu Police Station.

According to hospital officials, Mugai was later found dead on Sunday, March 22, 2026, inside a restroom within the facility.
Initial findings suggest that he may have fallen while using the toilet, leading to his death.
His body has been preserved at Murang’a County Level V Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have documented the incident and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding it. Authorities have asked the public to remain patient as forensic processes are carried out.
In a separate incident, police in Kibwezi Sub-County, Makueni County, have launched investigations after a decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered in the Machinery area.
The body was found on March 23, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. by a woman working on her farm near Machinery Market. She became concerned after noticing a strong odor coming from an unfinished building nearby.
Upon inspection, she found the body lying on the ground in an advanced state of decomposition and alerted authorities.
Police reported that the deceased, believed to be a middle-aged man, had no identification documents, and his identity remains unknown.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with missing relatives or relevant information to report to the nearest police station to assist with identification. Investigations into the cause of death are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Kiambu County, officers are investigating the discovery of human remains in Thika East Sub-County, believed to have resulted from an animal attack.
The remains were reported on March 23, 2026, at about 6:50 p.m. by a security officer on patrol at Delmonte Farm, Field 56.

Police who visited the scene confirmed that the remains, thought to belong to an adult, were badly mutilated, with several body parts missing.
Investigators suspect a wild animal, possibly a hyena, may have been responsible. The remains were collected, documented, and transported to the city mortuary for further examination, including DNA analysis, to establish identity and cause of death.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about missing persons in the area to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigations.
