Three police officers and a civilian lost their lives on Sunday evening after a patrol vehicle from Nguutani Police Station veered off the road and overturned multiple times near Mwatungo Primary School, a few kilometres from Kithyoko Market along the Matuu–Mwingi Road.
The vehicle had four officers and one civilian on board when the accident occurred.

One officer died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries after being taken to Kithyoko Level Three Hospital. A third officer was rushed to Matuu Level Four Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The civilian also died upon arrival at the same hospital.
Police confirmed that one officer survived the crash and is currently admitted in stable condition at Matuu Level Four Hospital.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the Migwani police commander were unsuccessful, as the officer requested additional time to confirm details of the incident.
The accident happened at a blackspot that has recorded previous crashes. Just last week, a secondary school teacher died at the same location after losing control of his motorcycle. His wife was injured in the incident and is still undergoing treatment.
