The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned job seekers to be wary of fraudulent employment postings circulating on social media.
In a statement on Thursday, the commission said fake adverts often request payments or personal details, which are not part of the official recruitment process.

The IEBC urged the public to rely solely on verified sources for updates on vacancies, including its website (www.iebc.or.ke) and official social media handles (@IEBCKenya).
“Fake News Alert! Beware of fraudulent job advertisements on social media,” the commission said, adding that all legitimate job openings and recruitment guidelines are published on its official jobs portal at https://jobs.iebc.or.ke. Applicants are advised to ignore any messages, links, or adverts offering IEBC jobs outside these official channels.
The warning comes as the IEBC invited organizations to apply for accreditation as election observers and media practitioners for the by-elections scheduled on February 26, 2026. Applications must be submitted via the IEBC Accreditation Management System at https://ams.iebc.or.ke by Friday, February 6, 2026, at 5 pm.
Applicants should ensure they have access to a reliable internet connection when submitting their details.
Accredited observers and media personnel will receive training and official badges granting access to polling stations and tallying centres. The commission noted that participation is voluntary and not remunerated.
For further inquiries, the IEBC can be reached at accreditation@iebc.or.ke or 020 2877000, and updates are available on verified social media platforms: @IEBCKenya on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Election observers monitor voting and counting processes to ensure elections are free, fair, transparent, and credible. Their duties include reporting irregularities, assessing compliance with national and international standards, and submitting recommendations to stakeholders, without interfering in the voting process.
Media practitioners, including journalists and reporters, cover election-related events such as campaigns, debates, rallies, and IEBC announcements. They provide real-time, verified information, educate voters on their rights and polling procedures, and help prevent misinformation and fake news, ensuring transparency throughout the electoral process.
