Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli said detectives are using all available forensic and investigative tools to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as inquiries continue.
A second memorial service for the late legislator was held on Monday at his Maili Saba home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where Masengeli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a thorough, transparent and swift investigation.
“We will do everything necessary. A forensic investigation is already underway, and we will not rest until all facts are fully established,” Masengeli said.
However, Jirongo’s allies and family associates expressed concern over the pace and findings of official investigations, revealing that the family has commissioned independent private investigators.
Former Senator George Khaniri claimed the investigators reviewed CCTV footage that allegedly shows two people seated in the front of the vehicle involved in the crash, raising questions about why Jirongo was initially reported to have been alone.
“If CCTV footage indicates two occupants, then why was it said he was alone after the accident?” Khaniri asked.
Former MP Fred Gumo also questioned the effectiveness of the official probe, suggesting that basic observations appear to have revealed details investigators have yet to address.

Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau described Jirongo as a unifying figure, particularly within the Mulembe community, noting that his death was a major loss.
Family members and mourners remembered the former MP as a visionary leader whose legacy extended beyond politics.
One of his widows, Christine Nyokabi, said the loss had left a deep personal void, while Anne Lanoi described him as the pillar that held the family together.
The late Cyrus Jirongo is scheduled to be laid to rest on Tuesday at his home in Lumakanda, Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County.
