Seth Nyakio Murder Suspect Finally Arrested

Police have arrested the key suspect in the killing of Seth Nyakio Njeri, whose body was discovered at a friend’s residence in Biafra Estate, Thika, on October 14, 2024.

Investigators say the suspect fled immediately after the alleged killing of the 23-year-old, who was the daughter of a politician from Kirinyaga County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later circulated his photograph and launched an intensive manhunt led by homicide detectives.

After months of forensic analysis and wide-ranging investigations, officers traced the suspect to Busia County. In a statement issued on December 13, the DCI said detectives from the homicide unit, working with teams from Kisii South and Busia, arrested the suspect—popularly known as “Sultan”—in Busia town near the Kenya–Uganda border.

According to the DCI, the suspect had been working at a cereal distribution shop while evading arrest. He is currently in custody and is being processed ahead of his arraignment in court.

Nyakio had recently graduated and was a media student at Zetech University. Her body was found inside Blessings Building in Thika. A post-mortem examination established that she had been assaulted and strangled, with injuries suggesting she struggled with her attacker.

At the early stages of the investigation, police identified an ex-boyfriend as a person of interest.

Nyakio’s mother, a nominated MCA in Kirinyaga, described her daughter as loving, charming and respectful. She recalled that Nyakio had kept in touch the day before her death, sending updates and photos while out with friends. Concern arose when she failed to return home later that night.

During Nyakio’s funeral on October 30, 2024, her mother made an emotional plea for justice, calling on investigators to leave no stone unturned.

Mourners echoed the call, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to bring those responsible to book, amid growing public concern over cases of young women going missing and later being found dead.
