Google Targets Kenyan Students With Advanced AI Learning Platform

Google has launched its Gemini Pro Plan (Google AI Pro) in Kenya, a new initiative designed to provide university and college students with cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools to enhance digital learning and research in higher education.

According to the tech giant, the rollout aims to equip learners with hands-on AI skills to boost creativity, innovation, and problem-solving as Kenya advances its digital education transformation.

“Education has always been central to Google’s mission. We’re excited to introduce our most advanced AI learning tools to eligible university students in Kenya, completely free for twelve months,” said Benson Kinoti, Google for Education Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Through the Gemini Pro Plan, we hope to nurture the next generation of innovators by giving them access to practical AI capabilities that enhance learning, creativity, and curiosity.”

ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo welcomed the move, saying it supports Kenya’s broader goal of becoming a regional leader in artificial intelligence through skills development and innovation.

“This initiative aligns perfectly with the Kenya AI Strategy 2025–2030, which seeks to leverage artificial intelligence for economic growth, sustainable development, and improved livelihoods,” he said.

Students aged 18 and above who are enrolled in accredited Kenyan universities, colleges, or tertiary institutions can register for 12 months of free access to the Gemini Pro Plan. The registration window closes on December 9, 2025.

The program is a collaboration between Google, the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, and the Ministry of Education, and supports the government’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, which emphasizes integrating AI into learning institutions and fostering an innovation-driven workforce.
