Raila Team Dismisses Health Rumors, Says He Is Abroad

The Raila Odinga Secretariat has strongly refuted claims circulating about the health of ODM leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, dismissing them as false and politically driven.

In a statement released on Saturday, Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango accused political figures including impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa of fueling a “familiar misinformation campaign” against the opposition chief.

Onyango said the same group had earlier coordinated attacks on Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship, and are now using sections of the media, bloggers, and AI-generated images to spread false reports disguised as breaking news.

“The hope of this team then and now is to bully Hon. Raila into becoming their pawn in battles against President William Ruto,” Onyango stated.

He stressed that Raila has always been transparent about his health, citing previous disclosures during his hospitalization in 2010 as Prime Minister and when he contracted Covid-19 in 2021.

“Were he to be unwell today, he would openly communicate it as he has always done,” Onyango added.

Clarifying the matter, Onyango confirmed that Raila left the country on Friday evening for a routine trip, but not to Europe as alleged. “He is not sick, nor indisposed, as claimed by his political opponents,” he said.

The Secretariat emphasized that Raila remains focused on advancing the Broad-Based Government agenda and continues to advocate for unity and compromise to safeguard national stability.

“Wherever he is, Hon. Raila remains steadfast in his belief that extraordinary challenges facing the nation require extraordinary compromises in the interest of Kenya,” Onyango concluded.
