The resolution was reached during a joint retreat bringing together the county executive and the assembly, where leaders reviewed progress under the county’s 16-point Kitui Promise development agenda.
According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, priority areas include opening, grading, and gravelling more roads, reducing the distance to water points to less than two kilometres, and ensuring that all 247 villages have functional health facilities by operationalising the remaining 34 centres.
The report shows that since August 2022, the county has undertaken 2,244 projects across 16 sectors, touching all villages and 40 wards. In the roads sector alone, 928km have been opened, an annual average of 58.12km graded per ward, alongside 77.1km graveled, 58 drifts, and 119 slabs constructed.
Healthcare has also seen significant milestones, with 311 facilities now active—including 14 hospitals, 54 health centres, and 243 dispensaries.
The Kitui County Referral Hospital has expanded with an outpatient block, ICU, HDU, newborn unit, oxygen plant, dialysis unit, and a modern mortuary. Additionally, the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre has so far treated 4,860 patients, while the Haemophilia Clinic has attended to 14 patients.
On water, the county highlighted progress from scarcity to sustainable supply. Key interventions include 316 sand dams, 18 on-farm ponds, 20 desilted medium dams, 18 sump wells, 23 new boreholes, 132 rehabilitated boreholes, and 123km of pipeline.

The Kangu Kangu Water Supply Project, valued at Sh432 million, was completed and is expected to benefit 60,000 residents in Kitui South and parts of Kitui Rural.
Looking ahead, the county will host the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair from February 26–28, 2026, and launch the Kitui Tourism Circuit on September 27, 2025, to promote trade and tourism.
