Speaking on Thursday, Mbadi praised Ruto for uniting Kenyans across all communities without discrimination, noting that the country is now rallying behind the President to deliver on his promises.

“President Ruto, you have shown us genuine friendship. I’m not saying this because I’m the Finance Minister, but because I have seen how you treat everyone equally. Kenyans have witnessed your love for all. I want to assure my people that we are not going anywhere,” Mbadi said.

His remarks were echoed by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who confirmed that ODM had formally resolved to back the broad-based government after consultations with party leader Raila Odinga and the ODM Central Committee.

“We fully support the broad-based government. The resolution was signed by Raila himself. Our focus is to stabilise the country and promote development,” Junet stated.

The legislator dismissed recent protests as politically motivated and destructive, saying the real challenge now was the “cost of politics” rather than the cost of living. He also predicted that the 2027 elections would mark the end of politics that exclude certain communities from development.

President Ruto announced the formation of a broad-based government in July 2024 after dissolving his cabinet, a move he said was inspired by God and aimed at fostering unity and building the goodwill needed to advance Kenya’s development agenda.

The political deal between Ruto and Raila—though not a formal coalition—has reshaped Kenya’s political scene, with several ODM leaders taking key cabinet roles. Mbadi now heads the Treasury, former ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho oversees Mining, while Opiyo Wandayi and Wycliffe Oparanya lead the Energy and MSMEs ministries respectively, cementing the alliance between the two political camps.
