The Grade 7 student was reunited with her family on Sunday, while her older brother, who had also been kidnapped, managed to escape earlier. The motive for the abduction remains unclear.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the rescue and praised local administrators and security teams for the successful mission. He noted that the girl and her brother will receive psychosocial support and offered to enroll them in a boarding school outside their region for safety and peace of mind.
Murkomen also instructed security teams in Baringo North and Tiaty Central to convene community meetings to address the root causes of the crime. He assured that the police would track down those responsible and bring them to justice.

The girl was found in Silale downhills, Tiaty Central, with assistance from community members and the Kenya Red Cross, which is now offering the family medical and psychological support.
The area remains under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a government initiative targeting banditry in the North Rift and parts of Northern Kenya.

Murkomen reiterated the government’s broader strategy to curb insecurity by promoting sustainable development, agricultural support, and economic empowerment in affected regions.
He also announced fresh vetting for all National Police Reservists to reinforce discipline and effectiveness.
