Speaking during a church service in Makadara, Nairobi, the President dismissed his critics as purveyors of “empty rhetoric” and affirmed his resolve to fulfil his leadership mission.
“I am unwavering in my determination to transform this nation. No amount of intimidation or insults will derail me—I have the time and the mandate to deliver,” said Ruto.
He stressed that Kenya is on the verge of major change, which explains the resistance from some quarters. The President reiterated his commitment to flagship initiatives such as affordable housing and universal health coverage, saying these long-delayed reforms are now his responsibility to implement.
Ruto’s comments follow heightened opposition to the housing levy, a central part of his development agenda.
Critics claim the policy unfairly taxes workers without guaranteeing home ownership, while opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have pledged to abolish the levy if they win power in 2027.
The levy, introduced in 2023, requires salaried workers and their employers to each contribute 1.5% of the employee’s pay—an obligation many say is straining already stretched incomes.
