During his speech at the Labour Day celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens—an event attended by President Ruto and other high-ranking officials—Atwoli argued that regulating online platforms would help curb unpatriotic rhetoric and safeguard national unity.
His comments come amid rising concern over alleged government crackdowns on dissent, including the reported arrest and disappearance of several youth activists following the June 25 Gen Z-led protests against the Finance Bill.
Atwoli’s proposal has been met with strong criticism on social media, with many Kenyans accusing him of endorsing efforts to undermine free speech and silence government critics.
