DCI Homicide Unit Probes MP Ong’ondo Were’s Murder at Crime Scene

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have visited the location along Ngong Road where Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was fatally shot on the evening of Wednesday, April 30.

The DCI’s homicide team examined the area near the City Mortuary roundabout, where the legislator was ambushed and shot by unidentified attackers on a motorcycle.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that the investigation is in progress and that the Inspector General of Police had assured him of steady progress in the case.

“The Inspector General has assured me that investigations into the killing of MP Charles Ong’ondo Were are advancing,” Murkomen said, urging investigators to act swiftly and thoroughly.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved, saying, “I send my sincere sympathies to Hon Were’s family, the people of Kasipul, and the entire nation following this devastating loss.”

President William Ruto also condemned the killing and called for an urgent and comprehensive probe, emphasizing the need to bring the culprits to justice.

In a statement on Thursday, President Ruto expressed grief over the tragedy and offered prayers for the late MP’s family and constituents.

“May God give strength to the family and the people of Kasipul as they cope with the loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” said the President.

He urged the National Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible face justice.

MP Were was gunned down near City Mortuary on Ngong Road. Authorities have indicated that the shooting was a deliberate and targeted act.
