2027 Showdown: United Opposition Declares War on Division

The leadership of the United Opposition has strongly affirmed its unity, dismissing reports of internal division as they intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at a burial ceremony in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County, on Tuesday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP–K boss Eugene Wamalwa presented a united front, stating that external efforts to fracture their alliance would ultimately fail.

Former Deputy President Gachagua underscored the pivotal role of the Mt Kenya region, claiming the area’s political allegiance for 2027 remains up for grabs.

“Mt Kenya people have not yet decided who they will support in 2027, but they have made up their mind on who they will send packing,” Gachagua asserted, drawing a parallel to past election cycles where opposition disunity impacted the region’s vote.

Gachagua also addressed personal critiques, insisting his focus is on critical issues like public resource management and human rights, rather than fostering ethnic division.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka affirmed the coalition’s strong cohesion, stating that their unity is bound by a shared “love of this nation.”

“It is not possible to divide us,” Musyoka declared, praising Gachagua as “an honest man” based on their year-long collaboration.

Eugene Wamalwa echoed the sentiment, citing successful joint coordination in recent by-elections in Mbeere North, Malava, and Magarini as a proof of concept for their national strategy. Wamalwa pointed to historical instances where opposition fragmentation hindered electoral success, stressing the critical need for a united approach in the upcoming polls.

All three leaders reiterated their firm intention to back a single candidate in 2027, positioning unity as the cornerstone of their bid to challenge the incumbent administration.
