Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu says she anticipated facing “Wantam” chants from sections of the crowd during an endometriosis awareness event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Sunday.
Nyamu was addressing thousands of people at Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors event on September 27, 2026, when sections of the audience interrupted her speech with chants calling for her to serve only one term.

The senator said the reaction did not surprise her, noting that the event was associated with activist Eric Omondi, whom she said has been vocal in his criticism of the government.
Nyamu said she could have chosen not to attend the event but decided to participate because of her involvement in efforts to address endometriosis and her responsibilities in Parliament.
She maintained that criticism would not stop her from attending public events or pursuing issues she considers important.
According to Nyamu, similar “One Term” comments have become common on her social media platforms and are therefore not new to her.
The senator said she chose to ignore the chants rather than engage with the crowd, adding that leaders cannot expect to receive public support at all times, even when they believe they are doing meaningful work.
Nyamu said she intends to remain focused on her responsibilities despite the criticism and expects to encounter more “Wantam” chants at future public engagements.
The event, organised around endometriosis awareness and advocacy, brought together thousands of attendees at KICC, with Nyamu using her appearance to highlight her parliamentary work on the condition.
