The arrests followed a coordinated sting operation involving officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and local police, based on actionable intelligence.
“A joint team of police and KWS officials raided a residence in Kavuvwani village, Mwingi Central, where a search uncovered three pieces of elephant tusks,” the DCI said.
The suspects are currently held at the Mwingi Police Station and are expected to face charges for unlawful possession of wildlife trophies from protected species. The seized tusks have been secured as evidence.
The charges will be filed under Section 92(4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013.
