ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has rebuked Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for criticizing Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Kenyan soil.
In a statement on X, Sifuna condemned Museveni’s public reprimand of Owino, arguing that such criticisms should not have been made while in Kenya.
“Regardless of Museveni’s issues with Babu Owino, I strongly object to his attack on a young Kenyan leader within our own borders,” Sifuna stated.
He suggested that Museveni should have used diplomatic channels to address any concerns about Owino rather than airing them publicly.
“Kenya is governed by the rule of law. If there are issues with Babu Owino, they should be communicated through proper diplomatic channels and let the law take its course,” Sifuna added.
“Museveni’s choice to use a presidential platform for such serious accusations against a Kenyan is unacceptable.”
Museveni’s comments were made in Nairobi on Tuesday during his endorsement of Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.
Museveni criticized Owino for his alleged involvement with anti-NRM groups, saying, “I have always seen Babu dealing with anti-NRM factions. I have never accused him before, but now I am.”
