Security personnel, in collaboration with village elders, successfully retrieved 201 camels that were stolen a week ago from the Mlango grazing area in Burat Ward, Isiolo County.
Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Patrick Musango, verified the recovery, stating that the security officers and elders tracked down the stolen animals, reclaiming 93 camels on the same day. The tracking team identified five zones suspected of being hideouts for the rustlers, leading to the recovery of 44 camels in Kipsing, 40 in Tasia, and 16 in Kalama. Unfortunately, one animal was lost in a gunfire exchange between police officers and the rustlers.
Mr. Musango disclosed that an additional eight camels were found in Learata, Samburu East Sub-County, where criminals had concealed them in a valley. The recovery efforts also extended to 300 goats and sheep stolen three weeks prior, with plans to return them to their owners in a ceremony overseen by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki at the Mlango Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp.
The DCC further reported the retrieval of 10 cattle stolen a week ago in the Ngaremara area of Isiolo. He urged chiefs and assistant chiefs to collaborate effectively with security officers, elders, and Nyumba Kumi leaders to ensure the security of their jurisdictions. The government, he emphasized, is committed to taking stringent measures against criminals and their supporters to eradicate crime in the region.
