The second suspect in the murder of Wells Fargo HR manager Willis Ayieko has been killed in Kisumu after escaping a police shootout on Wednesday night.
On Thursday afternoon, Kisumu police shot the suspect linked to Ayieko’s death.
Nyanza Regional Police Chief Patrick Tito reported that the suspect was fleeing from Gem, Siaya, and had checked into a hotel near Kisumu Polytechnic the previous night.
According to the police, the suspect fired at officers, which led to a shootout that resulted in his death. “The team was tracking him down and located him in a guest house. He refused to surrender and opened fire, prompting our response,” Tito explained.
Authorities recovered a pistol from the suspect at the scene, where the incident occurred around midday.
With this latest development, the total number of suspects killed in connection with the case has risen to two. Police are still searching for at least two additional suspects involved in Ayieko’s murder.
Another suspect, injured in a shootout in Gem, died in the hospital on Wednesday morning. She had been taken to a hospital in Yala, Siaya County, after sustaining injuries during a police confrontation in Wangai, Gem.
