Safaricom has significantly expanded its 5G network, increasing coverage by 111.7 percent to reach 1,700 sites in the 2025 financial year, up from 803 the previous year.
The milestone, detailed in the company’s 2025 Sustainable Business Report, highlights Safaricom’s push toward next-generation connectivity and efforts to future-proof its network.

The telco credited the sharp rise to growing demand for high-speed internet from both households and businesses, with users increasingly seeking faster connections for streaming, downloads, and digital enterprise applications.
During the same period, Safaricom’s 4G network grew from 6,745 to 6,937 sites, while 3G coverage rose from 6,823 to 6,970 sites.
The report further indicated that over 97 percent of Kenyans now have access to 2G, 3G, or 4G services, reflecting near-universal network reach.
