Pesident William Ruto is reportedly preparing for a significant Cabinet reshuffle, which will see the number of ministries reduced from 22 to 15.
According to sources from State House, this reorganization will result in the elimination of about seven ministries.
The remaining ministries will cover essential portfolios, including:
1. Ministry of Defence
2. Ministry of Interior
3. Ministry of Energy
4. Ministry of Health
5. Ministry of Education
6. National Treasury
7. Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation
8. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Community (EAC)
9. Ministry of Labour and Public Service
10. Ministry of Affirmative Action, Youth, and Gender
In addition, new ministries will be introduced, such as:
11. Ministry for Water, Forest, and Environment
12. Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports
13. Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands, Housing, Public Works, and Roads
14. Ministry of Economic Planning, MITI, SME Cooperatives, Delivery Unit, ICT
15. Office of the Attorney General
The reshuffle was reportedly discussed during a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, described by some as potentially the ‘last supper’ for seven Cabinet secretaries.
If the proposed changes are implemented, 15 principal secretaries will lose their positions, and 43 parastatal chiefs will be affected due to the reorganization of their roles.
Furthermore, the Treasury is set to review parastatals with overlapping mandates, with some being integrated into their parent ministries as departments.
