He said critics are particularly unhappy with his choice of Mbadi as Treasury Cabinet Secretary and Opiyo Wandayi for the Energy docket, arguing that they didn’t support him in the 2022 elections.
Despite the backlash, Ruto maintained that his government serves all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation or voting history. He emphasized that Kenya belongs to every citizen who contributes to the nation through taxes.
“There are those displeased because I appointed Mbadi and Wandayi, even though they didn’t vote for me. But I’ve told them this government is for all tax-paying Kenyans, whether they supported me or not,” Ruto said.
The President has been collaborating with ODM leaders, including Raila Odinga—his main rival in the last general election—in what he has described as an inclusive political approach.
Currently, at least five Cabinet members are from the ODM party, including Hassan Joho (Mining), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), and Beatrice Askul (ASAL).
While speaking in Rongo, Homa Bay, Ruto also took a jab at his potential 2027 election challengers, declaring that the next election should not be shaped by tribalism, bitterness, or division. He urged the opposition to base their campaigns on concrete development agendas instead of negative ethnic politics.
“They cannot come to us with tribalism, hate, or anger and expect to win. The next election will be about ideas,” Ruto said.
He further noted that Kenyan voters will choose their leaders—whether MCAs, MPs, Senators, Governors, or the President—based on sound development plans, not superficial traits.
