Raila Odinga emphasized the need for immediate reforms, stating that contemplating the 2027 General Election is premature at this point. In an exclusive interview with Citizen TV, the ODM leader stressed that participating in the 2027 election would be futile unless the advocated reforms, such as the overhaul of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and adherence to the Political Parties Act, are implemented.
Raila expressed ongoing concerns about the events of 2022 and insisted that addressing the issues properly is crucial before considering the next election. He highlighted the necessity of resolving the challenges faced during the previous election to establish a credible electoral commission capable of ensuring transparent and accurate results.
When questioned about his earlier statement hinting at support for Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential race, Raila clarified that he did not endorse the former vice president. Instead, he acknowledged Kalonzo’s unwavering support for his presidential ambitions over the past decade. Raila described Kalonzo as a reliable individual who has consistently stood for what is right, clarifying that his favorable remarks were a response to President William Ruto.
Raila further emphasized that the Azimio la Umoja team remains united, and they will collectively decide on their presidential candidate when the appropriate time arrives.
