PS Mary Muriuki Bags Top SDGs Health Award

Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muriuki has been honoured at the National SDGs Multi-Stakeholder Awards for her remarkable efforts in strengthening Kenya’s public health framework.

She received the award during a gala event in Nairobi, where she was praised for championing universal health coverage, expanding preventive health programmes, and supporting community-based public health initiatives.

Organisers noted that the recognition underscores her leadership in pushing policy reforms, improving disease surveillance, and advocating for fair access to healthcare — all central to Sustainable Development Goal 3 on health and well-being.

Muriuki has played a key role in major health reforms at the Ministry of Health, including scaling up immunisation, enhancing primary healthcare, and boosting collaboration with counties and development partners.

In her speech, she dedicated the award to health workers across the country, saying, “This honour reflects the commitment of every health professional working tirelessly to ensure Kenyans receive quality, accessible and affordable care.”

Stakeholders at the ceremony applauded her leadership in flagship health programmes and called for continued investment in the health sector to achieve SDG milestones by 2030.
