President Ruto Urged to Assist Widow of Late Kiptum with Employment

Gideon Kimaiyo, the Member of Parliament for Keiyo South, has appealed to President William Ruto to consider offering employment to Asenath Rotich, the widow of the deceased World Record Holder Kelvin Kiptum.

Speaking during the funeral service of the late marathoner in Chepkorio, Keiyo South, on Friday, Kimaiyo emphasized the significant financial strain the family faces following Kiptum’s demise. He suggested that providing employment to Asenath within the government would help alleviate their financial challenges.

“Mjane Asenath, who is the wife of Kiptum, if possible, let’s find her a job in the central government. Professor Paul Kimurto is part of this family; if he can be appointed as a CEO somewhere, he will also take care of this entire family,” Kimaiyo expressed.

His sentiments were seconded by Jackson Tuwei, the President of Athletics Kenya, who urged Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich to facilitate employment for Asenath.

“I urge the Governor of Elgeyo-Marakwet County to consider offering employment to Kelvin Kiptum’s wife within the county so that she can remain close to her family while taking care of her children,” Tuwei stated.

Tuwei also disclosed Golazo’s plan to establish the Kelvin Kiptum Foundation in honor of the late athlete, aiming to continue his legacy of supporting education and athletic infrastructure in Kenya.

“Golazo is launching the Kelvin Kiptum Foundation, primarily focused on providing ongoing assistance for education and sports facilities,” Tuwei announced.

“We are fully committed to supporting this initiative and intend to collaborate with the deceased’s family, the Elgeyo Marakwet County government, and other partners like Nike to ensure that all outstanding payments owed to Kelvin Kiptum are directed to this foundation.”

Meanwhile, Golazo CEO Bob Verbeeck remembered Kiptum as a compassionate, modest, and determined athletics icon whose impact in the sporting world will endure.

“Dear Kiptum, I’ll remember you as a loyal friend who became part of our family in 2017. What a journey in just seven years. Your smile, those light-hearted moments, and our time spent together in Chepkorio will always hold a special place in my heart. As we bid you farewell, know that we will miss you deeply, and you will never be forgotten. Our families are one. May you rest in eternal peace,” Verbeeck expressed.
