Police in Nairobi are looking into the death of a 22-year-old Kenyatta University student who was found deceased in her Githurai residence. Officers believe the case may involve self-harm, though investigations are ongoing.
The student, identified as Latifa Wangari, was a third-year learner. She was discovered on November 21 after neighbours reported they had not seen her since November 11 and became concerned due to a strong smell coming from her house. Police accessed the home after neighbours raised the alarm.

A note believed to have been written by her was recovered, and officers are reviewing it as part of their inquiries. The body was taken to a mortuary for an autopsy and further procedures.
Authorities have noted a rise in reports of people struggling with their mental wellbeing nationally, prompting increased awareness and support campaigns. The World Health Organization links mental-health challenges to factors such as financial pressure, academic stress, unemployment, bullying, and other life difficulties. Government agencies say efforts to address these issues are ongoing.

In separate incidents, a 10-year-old boy in Narok County drowned while swimming with friends in a local dam. Police retrieved the body and have launched an investigation.
Meanwhile in Mombasa, three police officers sustained minor injuries after their vehicle was involved in a collision with a commuter train in the Jomvu area while they were responding to a call. They were taken to hospital and are expected to recover.

In another case in Kisumu, police are investigating the death of a civil engineer who fell from an upper floor of the Lake Basin Development Authority Mall on October 30. Preliminary reports suggest the possibility of self-harm, but authorities say they are still establishing the full circumstances.
