In a statement issued by Dr. William Sigilai on behalf of CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri, KNH confirmed the victim, a male patient, had been admitted to Ward 7B on July 11, 2025. He was discovered dead shortly after visiting hours on July 17, with a deep neck wound.

Emergency protocols were immediately activated, the family was informed, and police were contacted. Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect on Thursday.

The hospital identified the suspect as a homeless individual with no known relatives or confirmed identity. Despite several discharge attempts since his ICU admission in November 2022, he remained at the facility due to lack of housing options.

In June 2024, he was placed in a home, but was readmitted in December and discharged again in January 2025. However, the facility refused to take him back, forcing KNH to retain him as it sought alternatives.

KNH stressed it never intended for the suspect to stay indefinitely and noted that he had already been flagged by the DCI in connection with a separate murder at the hospital in February.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The hospital expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and assured full cooperation with ongoing investigations.
