Murang’a County Progresses with the Automation of Medical Services in Local Hospitals

The government of Murang’a County is in the process of computerizing all public health facilities within the region, including the distribution of laptops and desktops to 157 facilities. The move follows the successful automation of services at the Murang’a County Referral Hospital, enhancing efficiency in service delivery at the Level-5 facility.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s administration is driving the initiative to automate health services with the goal of ensuring patients receive high-quality care and promoting effective resource management in local hospitals. The automation aims to track drug distribution, eliminate manual returns, and introduce a queue-less system for faster patient service.

As part of the automation process, patients will no longer need to carry physical cards or records, as their information will be stored digitally for easy access. Governor Kang’ata highlighted that, once the automation system is fully installed, patients can expect shorter waiting times for medical attention.

The automation initiative is expected to establish the groundwork for future telemedicine services, enabling patients to connect with doctors for assistance with various medical conditions, both minor and major.

Governor Kang’ata also noted the positive impact of automation on revenue collection in health facilities, citing increased revenue at the Level-5 hospital after the implementation of automated services.

While the installation of the automation system is in progress, the county government has urged patients seeking services in health facilities to be patient, acknowledging potential delays in registration and outpatient queues. A public notice issued by the county government assures the community that normal service provision will resume once the systems are fully installed.
