Leaders Pay Tribute to Former MP Lempurkel

Political leaders from various parties have expressed their sorrow following the death of former Laikipia North MP, Matthew Lempurkel.

Lempurkel passed away on Sunday due to injuries sustained in a recent road accident in Rongai. He had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi after suffering serious injuries.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula described Lempurkel’s passing as a great loss, remembering him as a committed leader who fiercely advocated for the rights of marginalised communities.

“On behalf of Parliament and myself, I extend sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Laikipia North community. May his legacy of service bring them strength. Rest in peace,” Wetang’ula said.

Lempurkel served as Laikipia North MP between 2013 and 2017.

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi also mourned Lempurkel, recalling their time together in Parliament.

“He was a good man whose absence will be deeply felt. My condolences go out to his loved ones and constituents,” Muturi posted on X.

The ODM Party offered its condolences as well, praying for peace and comfort for the bereaved.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga paid tribute to Lempurkel, calling him a dedicated colleague and strong advocate for his people.

“It was a privilege to serve with him. He was a true champion of the Maa community. My heartfelt sympathies to his family and the people of Laikipia North,” she said.

Lempurkel was widely respected for his fearless advocacy on behalf of the Maa community and his efforts to address historical injustices during his time in the 11th Parliament.
