The emotional clip, drawn from a past interview, shows the young comic optimistically speaking about his goals in comedy and his admiration for Gachagua, whom he was widely known for impersonating.

“My ultimate dream is to grow in my craft. I believe I’ll meet him (Gachagua) when I’ve improved. Then, maybe I’ll remind him, ‘I was the one mimicking you, and you said we’d meet — but we never did,’” KK said.

Despite being overlooked while others, like Ivy Chelimo — credited with coining the nickname “Riggy G” — received recognition, KK remained gracious and focused on his progress.

“I had nothing against it. I was doing well with corporate gigs, and my numbers were strong. I chose to stay focused and take it as encouragement,” he noted.

Still, he admitted there were moments he wished for acknowledgment from Gachagua.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes hope he would call,” he added.

Gachagua had, during a past media interview, praised KK’s talent and pledged to support him.

“I saw this young man imitating me. I’ll look for him. We must support our youth—I’m very passionate about that,” Gachagua said at the time.

That pledge has now resurfaced in the wake of KK’s death, sparking criticism online, with many Kenyans accusing the former DP of failing to act on his promise.

Currently in the U.S. on official duties, Gachagua mourned the comedian in a post on X, describing him as a talented young man who used humour to engage the nation.

KK Mwenyewe, whose real name was Zacharia Kariuki, was buried on Tuesday at his family home in Githirioni, Limuru, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and fellow content creators.
