Kisii Mother Names Quadruplets After Late Raila Odinga

A Kisii woman who recently gave birth to quadruplets has named the babies after the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga and his wife, Ida Odinga, in a heartfelt tribute to the veteran political leader.

Vane Nyanchoka delivered three boys and one girl at Nyanchwa Adventist Mission Hospital in Kisii County. Speaking to Citizen TV, she said the naming was inspired by her admiration and respect for the late Raila.

The birth has attracted attention both for its rarity and its symbolic timing. Nyanchoka revealed that her ultrasound scans had indicated she was expecting triplets, but a fourth “miracle baby” arrived unexpectedly via C-section.

“I only prepared for three babies, but we were blessed with four. I now have six children, and all I can say is God is great,” she said. Nyanchoka, who previously had twins, is now a mother of six.

She named her sons Raila, Amollo, and Odinga, while the baby girl was named Ida, honoring the late leader’s wife. Her sister, Everleen Ontweka, explained that the names were chosen to celebrate Raila Odinga’s legacy shortly after his passing.

“We were mourning the loss of our hero when my sister gave birth. It felt like Raila had returned in a special way,” she said.

Hospital staff described the delivery as historic, marking the first successful birth of quadruplets at Nyanchwa Adventist Mission Hospital. Dr. Maria Lyther, who led the medical team, said they were both surprised and thrilled by the outcome.

While celebrations continue, Nyanchoka now faces the challenge of caring for six young children. Hospital administrator Dancun Mosiomo said they were considering waiving her medical bills and encouraged well-wishers to support the family.

The quadruplets are reported to be in stable condition under medical supervision. The birth, coinciding with the nation’s mourning of the late former Prime Minister, has touched many Kenyans, with many praising the mother’s gesture as a moving tribute to one of the country’s most influential leaders.
